Spatial Variation of Water Chemistry in Aries River Catchment, Western Romania

نویسندگان

چکیده

This study aims to investigate the quality and vulnerability of surface water (Aries River catchment) in order identify impact past mining activities. For this purpose, pollution indices, Piper Durov plots, as well modeling maps were used. The obtained results indicate that samples contaminated with As, Fe, Mn, Pb have relatively high concentrations SO42−, HCO3−, TDS, Ca, K, Mg values for electrical conductivity. Possible sources content chemicals could be natural processes or inputs mine drainage. Generally, according which correlated heavy metals, especially Pb, Fe characterized by metals pollution. index classified studied into five different classes quality, namely: unsuitable drinking, poor, medium, good excellent quality. Similarly, very observed. plots waters Mg-HCO3− Ca-Cl− types. present activities clearly change chemistry alter Aries River, requiring specific treatments before use.

Characterization and assessment of potential environmental risk of tailings stored in seven impoundments in the Aries river basin, Western Romania

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND The objective of this study was to examine the potential environmental risk of tailings resulted after precious and base metal ores processing, stored in seven impoundments located in the Aries river basin, Romania. The tailings were characterized by mineralogical and elemental composition, contamination indices, acid rock drainage generation potential and water leachab...

Spatiotemporal Variation and Risk Assessment of Pesticides in Water of the Lower Catchment Basin of Acheloos River, Western Greece

A three-year monitoring survey (March 2005-February 2008) was conducted to investigate, on monthly basis, the presence of thirty pesticides belonging to various categories and metabolites, in Acheloos River (Western Greece), one of the most important water resources in Greece. Six sampling stations along the river were established. Water analyses were performed using solid-phase extraction comb...

Spatial variation and temporal stability of soil water in a snow-dominated, mountain catchment

Soil is a critical intermediary of water flux between precipitation and stream flow. Characterization of soil water content ( , m3 m 3) may be especially difficult in mountainous, snow-dominated catchments due to highly variable water inputs, topography, soils and vegetation. However, individual sites exhibit similar seasonal dynamics, suggesting that it may be possible to describe spatial vari...
